Most children, little and big, are fascinated by trains. I was so fascinated by trains as a boy of five I would draw a train on my chalkboard at home starting with the engine, and erase each car after I drew it until I had drawn a complete train ending with the caboose. The floor around me would be pure white from the chalk dust. I was in seventh heaven when I went to school and could use the complete black board to draw my trains without erasing a single car.
Recognizing this fascination several of us members at Calvary United Methodist Church have formed a caring ministry called Rails to Recovery. Rails to Recovery provides train theme photograph albums for children of any age who are going through difficult times, be it a serious illness or some other life disturbing event.
These photographs are taken by church members then assembled into an album. Each album has a particular theme. In addition, Operation Life Saver has generously provided games and coloring pages that are included in each album.
The albums are distributed free of charge with all costs to produce and distribute covered by donations.
